COVID-19 NEWS: suggestion by the Global Health Experts & Supreme Court of India to shut down India for at-least 15-days to break this corona virus chain... Lockdown extended in many states of India to break the chain… People must follow the guidelines and steps to prevent them from coronavirus… Vaccination for 18+ begin yesterday in Delhi…
Supreme Court of India, US’s Chief Medical Advisor and many other top health experts have suggested that if India further fails to impose lockdown, it will be unable to control COVID’s 2nd wave
The devastating second wave of the coronavirus continues to wreak havoc in India as the nation recorded more than 3.5 lakh fresh Covid-19 infections on Monday. This is the seventh day running when India has seen more than 3.5 lakh coronavirus cases.
The Centre and state governments should consider imposing a lockdown to curb the virus said the Supreme Court on Sunday, hours after Top US epidemiologist Dr. Anthony Fauci, among other medical experts has advised for a complete “shut down” of India in backdrop of the second wave of Covid-19 that has taken the country by storm leading to a huge humanitarian crisis across the country.
They also emphasized the need for the Government to immediately procure medical supplies, PPE kits, and oxygen to alleviate the problem of those already suffering from the virus in need of resources.
A more immediate way to temporarily put an end to the cycle of transmission would be to lock down the country for a few weeks while arranging for adequate medical supplies and assistance for those infected.
The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday decided to increase the duration of the weekend lockdown by 48 hours to cover Tuesday and Wednesday also. “The curfew from Friday 8 pm to Tuesday 7 am has been extended for 48 hours. Now it will continue till May 6 till 7 am,” Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Navneet Sehgal told PTI.
Also Punjab, Odisha and Goa take lockdown route to curb spread. Meanwhile, Delhi has sought the help of the Army to set up, operationalise and run Covid-19 health facilities with oxygenated non-ICU and ICU beds, as the Capital is fighting against an increase in the number of fresh infections, daily deaths, while people are running from pillar to post in search of oxygen and other medical essentials.
Apart from the potential lockdown strategy, concerns over the on-going vaccination drive have also been expressed by experts. Dr. Fauci mentioned this, saying “To have a country like India, where only around 2% of people are vaccinated, is a very serious situation”.
He recommended getting contractual arrangements with multiple companies to get vaccines as quickly as possible, while revving up its own capabilities to make vaccines, given how India the largest manufacturer of vaccines in the world.
The Government had earlier ruled out the possibility of an entire lockdown and planned to focus on smaller containment zones, but experts have said that the current restrictions imposed have not been very effective.
The lockdown strategy has been the most widely adopted and effective way to curb the spread of the virus and has worked in favour of many countries. The UK, after suffering from a deadly 2nd wave of the pandemic has reportedly reached the bottom of the fatal disease levels.

Position is going worst now, so if government have to take decision to implement lockdown, then this will be good decision to break the chain.
